Starting on Dec 7th the free gallery will be open to the public to see lots of behind the scenes artwork and images that helped shape the epic film. Including a few of mine which are posted as the main images on the splash page for the site :) As well as many others listed on the site and hopefully a few more that art not listed. Pacific Rim ILM photo :)
Here's a shot of Guillermo del Toro, myself and VFX supervisor John Knoll at my desk at ILM while working on Pacific Rim (which comes out on DVD Oct 15). One of GDT's many visits to ILM during production of the film. He really enjoyed coming up and seeing the artists at work and also checking out all the toys that cover our desks :). I had a blast on that show and I hope it all shows in the film and translates to the small screen, although I recommend you watch it on the biggest TV you can with the biggest sound system for full impact! See more of the art in the book Man, Machines and Monsters.
Thanks to ILM for posting this photo on their Industrial Light and Magic facebook page.

The JAEGERTECH CRS-XX??
So I decided to do a test to see what the FRS-XX body would look like as a car. So I simply dropped it onto a Le Mans cars chassis without much change at all. Seems to work, just need to do some integration and custom wheels and wings etc...
More to come!

New JAEGERTECH designs in 'Pure Form'
I recently finished work on some new JAEGERTECH designs for the second volume of the Nuthin but Mech series from Design Studio Press. These 2 new designs are part of the JAEGERTECH family of mechs. The all new TR series drone mech is the S.A.R.X search and rescue drone. With multiple capabilities including climbing into tunnels and vertical shafts, extreme environment running and powerful non-optical, multi vision mapping technologies, the S.A.R.X saves lives of both victims and rescue workers.
Second in this group is the flagship of JAEGERTECH Sport division, the FRS-XX racing mech. This is mech may be familiar yet it's entirely new. Sporting a 6 limb chassis and 2 pilot seating, the XX is poised to champion the WMRC.
I chose to post these 'pure form' images as they show off the pure design shapes and details. The final colored, textured images will be show in the book later this year. To keep up to date with JAEGERTECH please follow this blog, the JAEGERTECH
Cheers!

Latest release of the cover of the Art of Pacfic Rim book!
And this one features one of my concept art pieces from the film that was used as the main guide for the Hong Kong battle sequence by Industrial Light + Magic (ILM did the majority of the visual effects work on the film). Color, lighting, rain and atmosphere where all tweaked to get what Guillermo was going for as a style for the sequence. I started with a VERY rough pre-vis frame to match the shot perspective, then painted in the buildings, signs, Gipsy Danger, Kaiju (Otachi), rain and lighting effects, reflections, textures and damage, as well as the 'baseball bat oil tanker' in photoshop. Guillermo had me push the colors for this sequence to keep it different and fun. See the rest of the amazing artwork for this film in this book, including work from Ryan Drue and John Giang from ILM and all the great artists who worked in preproduction with Guillermo.

Spy Shot of a new JAEGERTECH mech popped up on Nuthin' But Mech!
This spy shot of the rumored update to JAEGERTECH's FRS-32r, shown here with "FRS-XX" on top, was posted on Nuthin' But Mech blog a few minutes ago. Judging by the faint 'Nuthin' But Mech Racing' logo on top I assume it's a publicity stunt. Either way it's our first look at the anticipated new model. I designed this late last year and it's great to see it up and running! I'm obligated not to tell you too much yet though. At first look you'll notice the addition of 2 additional legs that separates the 'XX' from the 32r. It seems to have lost a few inches in length and the signature carbon fiber split backbone in favor of the central strip. Also gone is the drop down cockpit instead opting for the side/top entry, but this time it looks like there's 2 doors for 2 pilots....hmmm, looks as if JAEGERTECH is introducing a co-driver position for the WRMR series possibly? :P The rest of the forms are a bit hard to read in this optical distortion wrap but you can see it still looks to be in the same family as previous FRS models. No word or confirmation from JAEGERTECH yet on this photo, but I'm sure we'll hear or see something more official soon!
cheers!

Pacfic Rim Art of Book!
5 months to go still until the unleashing of giant 'kaiju' vs 'Jaeger' battles of Pacific Rim, but the marketing machine is starting to stomp it's way into action. Amazon has posted a pre-order for 'Pacific Rim: Man, Machines and Monsters' . I'm sure there will be some of my artwork as well as the many other very talented artists involved in building this full Del Toro world.
Sure to be full of artwork, behind the scenes and post-production work, this book is the start of many PacRim items sure to be lining your (and mine) selves. :)
Recently they showed some toys by NECA, and announced that Sideshow will also be making highly detailed versions.
So sit back and let the 12 year old inside of you be ready for epic-ness from the master, Guillermo Del Toro.
Also check in on the 'Pan Pacific Defense Corps' site for more sitings and info. And join the PacRim facebook page to get the latest!

Happy birthday BLUE!
After driving one on the autobahn in 2003, and waiting 14 months for the U.S. version... 9 years ago I took delivery of this beautiful 2004 Deep Metallic Blue VW R32. Haldex 4motion all wheel drive, 3.2 liter VR6 with 250hp, 6 speed manual, OZ wheels, Koenig Race seats, and the first Golf with fully independent rear suspension are just a few of the differences this car had over the then current GTI.
With only a small number of issues, all covered under warranty, this car has been the best car I've ever owned. It's also the best sounding car out there, for under 30 grand. I've been pulled over by motorcycle cops who pull up next to me after tailing me for miles, just to say "thanks, that thing sounds awesome". I've hauled tons of various cargo, got married, had 2 kids, moved several times, tracked it several times at Thunderhill and Streets of Willows and made many trips to and from work over those 9 years. It still looks, runs and sounds like new.
